Abstract :

This study examined the physico-chemical characteristics of irrigation water in the N'djili river watershed. Analyses assessed parameters such as electrical conductivity, suspended solids, hardness, ions and pH, comparing them with FAO standards. Results from the Masina Rail 1 (Site 1) and Tshangu (Site 2) sites revealed high levels of suspended solids and electrical conductivity, well in excess of recommended limits. On the other hand, other parameters, such as temperature and ammonium, nitrate and phosphate ions, were with in irrigation standards, although variations were noted between the two sites. It is therefore essential to implement management measures to reduce contaminants, in order to optimize the use of water for irrigation. Integrated monitoring of all water parameters, for an overall assessment of water quality. Specific action plans need to be developed for each parameter, taking into account seasonal variations and environmental changes. In addition, it is crucial to educate farmers and decision-makers about good water management practices and the health risks associated with poor water quality. With an integrated approach to monitoring, management and education, it will be possible to guarantee optimal conditions for crops and ensure the sustainability of water resources in the N'djili watershed.
