Abstract :

Nowadays, water management in agriculture is a major challenge for all users of this resource. Good water management in agriculture is a key to success for crop production, ensuring the sustainability of this sector. The aim of this study is to inventory the irrigation systems used by farmers in the N'djili watershed. The inventory of irrigation systems used by farmers in the N'djili watershed was carried out through surveys of market gardeners. After analysis of the data, the results show that farmers in the N'djili watershed have no hydro-agricultural equipment to ensure a good supply of water to their crops. The water used for irrigation comes from hill reservoirs and wells, which often dry up during periods of rainfall deficit, exposing market gardeners to a medium risk of water shortage. Market gardeners have a totally manual and traditional irrigation system, which does not allow them to develop productive agriculture. Thus, for a sustainable management of irrigation water, studies on the analysis and improvement of the performance of traditional irrigation systems are necessary to guarantee sustainable agriculture.
