Abstract :

The birth interval is an important indicator for the analysis of fertility and the use of family planning in terms of reproductive health. Thus, the short inter-birth interval of less than 24 months increases the risk of morbidity including maternal and infant mortality which constitute a public health problem in the Democratic Republic of Congo, particularly in the urban-rural health zone of Bandundu where we have observed pregnancies that are too close together, unwanted and at high risk among adolescents. The general objective of the study is to understand the perception of adolescents on respect for the inter-birth interval in the urban-rural health zone of Bandundu. We used a phenomenology approach, carried out through the survey method, supported by the interview technique through an interview guide and dictaphone used as data collection instruments. The results showed that adolescent girls in the urban-rural health zone of Bandundu do not respect the inter-birth interval, which favors several obstetric complications, the most feared of which is neonatal death. With a view to improving the maternal health of adolescents by respecting the inter-birth interval in the urban-rural health zone of Bandundu, it is appropriate to use contraceptive methods to avoid unwanted pregnancies, popularization of modern contraceptive methods, the fight against local culture including the establishment and application of laws to legislate the sexual and reproductive health of adolescents.
