Abstract :
Informal entrepreneurship plays a crucial role in Kinshasa's economic vitality. In particular, the currency exchange sector not only provides income for individuals but also strengthens the city's economic resilience. However, this sector is vulnerable to economic fluctuations and regulatory restrictions, which can jeopardize its sustainability. This article examines the various challenges faced by this sector. On the one hand, entrepreneurs must cope with recurring tax payments that should be collected by the relevant authorities but, due to a lack of organization, are collected by police officers and other local agents. On the other hand, the activities carried out in this sector are a driver of social and economic development for currency exchangers, as they meet numerous needs. The collected taxes could further promote development if the relevant authorities (the Congolese state) were to regulate this sector.
