Abstract :
A study was carried out on the Development of a conceptual model for the sustainable of the fish diversity of the Malebo Pool in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of Congo. Surveys and focus group interviews were carried out in Kinkole and Kingabwa with 220 fishermen equally distributed on each fishing ground. The Strengths, Weaknesses, Threats and Opportunities of fishing in the Malebo Pool were presented. The Modèle de Gestion Durable des Ressources Ichtyologiques du Pool Malebo proposes a collaborative approach between the Congolese state, fisheries stakeholders and local stakeholders for a more sustainable management of fish resources. The implications of this model are far-reaching, notably in terms of aquatic biodiversity preservation, food security, socio-economic development and aquatic ecosystem conservation. Scaling it up would require effective coordination between the various stakeholders, adequate resources for training and awareness-raising, and ongoing financial and political support from government authorities. In addition, ongoing evaluation of its impact and adaptation to local realities would be essential to ensure its long-term effectiveness.
