Abstract :

This study aimed to assess the supply of charcoal in Kinshasa by analyzing its availability, storage factors, and impact on local forest resources. A survey conducted at 30 unloading points using a structured questionnaire provided data processed with SPSS and MS Excel. Findings reveal a growing demand and a just in time management system, with stocks usually depleted in less than a week. This pressure is exacerbated by logistical constraints such as poor road conditions, high transport costs, and administrative hurdles. The study highlights a strong reliance on specific tree species, notably Mikwati and Acacia, whose overexploitation contributes to forest degradation and biodiversity loss. Multidimensional analysis identified the main determinants of supply, driven by economic factors (volumes, prices, transport) and spatial factors (sourcing areas). These results emphasize the need to strengthen transport infrastructure, improve supply chains, and promote sustainable practices to ensure balanced development of the charcoal sector in Kinshasa.
