Abstract :
The choice of irrigation system has a significant impact on agricultural productivity and the sustainability of water resources. This study examines the factors that determine the adoption of the surface irrigation system for rice cultivation in the N'djili River watershed, Masina Rail 1 site. Primary data were collected from 250 randomly selected rice and vegetable farmers and analyzed using SPSS 25 and MS Excel 2019 software. Secondary data were collected from various sources in the literature using a literature review. Data analysis focused on explanatory variables for the profitability of rice cultivation in the face of drought. The results of the analysis indicate that rice profitability increases the probability of choosing surface irrigation by around 274%, while drought decreases it by almost 138%. In the event of flooding, belonging to a local organization reduces the likelihood of choosing this type of irrigation. To remedy this situation, development stakeholders and decision-makers need to organize awareness-raising, extension and training campaigns for producers on innovative irrigation system technologies that are resilient to the impacts of climate change, in order to improve the productivity of the various crops and ensure food security for producers in the N'djili watershed, and indeed in the Congo basin.
