Abstract :
This research determines the effect of traditional farming on the socio-economic progress of the Idiofa region in the Democratic Republic of Congo. It showcases the hardships of local farming—primarily the lack of organized subsistence agriculture on a small scale—and how it badly attempts to fulfill the basic needs of the rural families. The study uses a mixed approach with field surveys, interviews, and document analysis, suggesting significant structural obstacles, including insufficient agricultural policy frameworks, limited farming and rural development infrastructure, and low levels of institutional engagement and guidance. The findings highlight the critical need to improve local governance and the formation of strong farmer cooperatives to instigate effective transformational development. This study further supports the objectives of the Sustainable Development Goals and proposes concrete strategies for modernizing agriculture in a place-based approach while aligning with the goals of Sustainable Development.
